Buttercup Block

The Buttercup Block is a very easy block to make. It is variation of a nine patch. For the block you will need 4 half-square triangles, 3 solid blocks and one special, but easy, block.Directions: (I will be giving directions using the colors I used, but you can use any colors you want.) 1. Decide the size of the block you want. Each individual block will be 1/3 the size of the final block plus 1/2 inch seam allowance. For example if your butterfly block is 6 1/2 inches unfinished, each component will be cut at 2 1/2 inches. 2. Cut 3 squares of your white fabric. My sample is a 6 inch block so my squares will be cut at 2 1/2 inches 3. Cut 1 yellow square 2 1/2 inches 4. Make 4 half-square triangles. Two will be green and white, two will be yellow and white.
