Jewel Box Block.

The twelve inch Jewel Box Block is made up of 8 four patches, that will be made into 4 eight patches, and 8 half square triangles. The block will be divided into thirds. Directions 1. Choose your fabric. I used a variety of fabrics for the four patches and the same 2 fabrics for my half square triangles. 2. Make your eight half-square triangles. These units should be 3 inches finished. There are many ways to make a half square triangle,
click here if you need directions.
3. Take four half-square triangles and sew them together, as you would a
four patch.

4. Make the four patches a. Cut 32 two inch squares(This includes the seam allowance) b. Make 8 four patches. If you need help with making 4 patches,
click here.
You will be using the directions on how to make scrappy four patches. Press toward darker fabric.

5. Sew the 2 four patches together to make 4 units with 8 patches in each. Make sure your seams are pressed in opposite directions.

6. Lay out your 3 rows of mini-units for placement.

*Use the picture to make sure your half-square triangles are turned in the right direction.7. Row 1 - sew a half square triangle to an 8 patch to another half-square triangle. 8. Row 2 - sew an 8 patch to the unit of half-square triangles you made in step 3 to an eight patch. 9. Row 3- same as row 1 Press the units in each row toward the half-square triangle.

10. Sew the three rows together. Press
