QUARTER-SQUARE TRIANGLE

The quarter-square triangle block is used in a variety of block squares. It can be made using triangle pattern pieces or with squares. Making it with squares is the quicker easier way to make them. 1. Cut 2 squares of contrasting fabric. The size of your unfinished square (including seam allowance) plus 1 1/2 inches. 2. Place the squares with right sides together. Draw a diagonal line on the reverse side of the lighter square with a pencil. Sew 1/4 inch from both sides on drawn line. Cut apart on drawn line. Press toward darker fabric.

3. Place the 2 half-square triangle units right sides together, contrasting colors on top of one another. The seams should butt against each other. 4. Draw a diagonal line that is perpendicular to the seam.

5. Sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut down the center line. Press toward darker fabric.

6. You now have 2 quarter-square triangle units.
