SAWTOOTH STAR

The Sawtooth Star is a very easy block to make. It is made up of four small squares, one large square, and four flying geese. Directions for a 12" block: 1. Make four flying geese. a. Cut a rectangle from the geese fabric 6 1/2" b. Cut two squares from the sky fabric 3 1/2. Draw a diagonal line on the reverse side of both squares. c. Place a sky fabric square on top upper corner of geese fabric. (It can be either side.) Stitch on the diagonal line. d. Finger press back the sky fabric and repeat on the other side of the geese fabric. e. Fold back triangles and trim the back excess fabric. e. Fold back triangles and trim the back excess fabric.

2. Cut one square 6 1/2". This center square can be made many ways. It can be the same color as the flying geese, or a four-patch, or a signature square for an album quit, plus many other things. 3. Cut 4 squares 3 1/2" 4. Sew row 1 & 3 - small square to flying geese to small square, using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press toward flying geese. 5. Sew row 2 - flying geese to center square to flying geese. Press toward flying geese. 6. Sew the three rows together - row 1 to row 2 and then row three. If you pressed rows in opposite directions, your seams should butt up against each other, and you will have good points.
