Hand Applique
I have found hand applique to be a very relaxing hobby. It is also one that is very portable and can be done almost anywhere. There are many different ways to do applique and they are all easy to do with just a little practice.
The three methods I like the best are needle-turn, freezer paper, and fusible applique. I have used all three techniques at different times, and I have even used more than one of these on the same quilt.
Needle-turn applique is the most traditional form of hand applique
but it is the most difficult of the three to learn. It requires no extra supplies. When you have small or narrow patterns to applique,it is the best method to use.
Freezer-paper is an easy method of applique,
but requires the most extra supplies. Most of these supplies you probably already have, or if not, they are very inexpensive. There are several different ways to use freezer paper when doing applique
Fusible applique is my favorite method, because it is very easy and has excellent results
It is a good idea to practice using the different methods before trying them on a quilt. A heart is a good pattern to practice on because it has both curves and a point.
It is also good to practice doing circles, because circles are done differently that other patterns.
Go to my page on "Applique Circles" to see how to applique a perfect circle.
I'm sure with practice you will enjoy applique as much as I do.
